Many artists get stuck trying to come up with interesting compositions. The task of creating a new piece can be daunting. What layout should I use? What color scheme will work? Where do I start? Well here's an idea that may help if you find yourself in a similar artist block.
1. Choosing an interesting composition:
Sometimes when I get stuck coming
Up with a good comp I like to browse
Some pics of famous artists work.
Break down some pieces you like into
Simple lines or shapes. It's great to do
A bunch of these in your sketchbook for
Later reference. When you find a comp
You like try to think of what you can do
To fill those spaces or create those
Angles in your next piece.

2. Choosing a good color scheme:
It's all about the mood. Do a Google
Image search of random mood words
Or, browse some pics of artists that
Have work in the style you're trying to
Attain. Now, once you find one, or a
Few, good pics break them down into
their most prominent colors. Don't
Get too many that you overwhelm
Yourself but enough to give you some
Options. (Between 3 and 7 is good).
Another idea I love to do is to go to one of
the many color scheme generator websites
and pick ones that I'm drawn to.

Now, you have a composition and a color scheme! All of a sudden that blank white piece of paper isn't so scary because you can start putting some guidelines down or blocks of colors that you already know work well together!
